Prepped some glass for tomorrow’s session. A bead of albumin has been applied to the edges of the plate to help prevent the collodion from peeling off. I like to dry it horizontally so that the bead doesn’t run across the surface. Working with glass is very labor intensive compared with using metal plates, but so much more satisfying when it comes together. IMHO, the added fragility of the glass adds to the specialness of the work.

Great turnout for the Victoria #distinguisedgentlemansride today. The Victoria ride had 110 registered riders who raised just over $29,000 for men’s mental health and prostrate cancer programs through the Movember Foundation. Way to go Victoria!!! So proud to be part of this ride and the organizing committee!

I spent a couple of days in the woods, drinking strong coffee and thinking of all the things going on in the next few weeks.

I’m in the process of getting a show shot, printed, and framed, and to be honest it’s been a struggle. It’s coming together, but not without some challenges.

The #dgrvictoria2023 happens on May 21, so if you ride a classic, or any motorcycle, really, think about dressing dapper and riding for the men in your life. DGR supports men’s health including men’s mental health.

I went to see #biglonelydoug but the road was completely impassable for the van. It saddens me that the only legacy of all the protests to save old growth forests is decommissioned camping areas, gates everywhere and continued logging.

I managed a few plates that I’m happy with and I will share them at a later time.

Balasana, or ‘Child’s Pose’ is associated with the Earth element in yoga. This pose allows a person to connect with the Earth and it’s a very grounding, centering, and calming pose.

Along with a series various yoga poses exploring the elements, there will also be a series of landscape images that also explore the themes of ‘Elemental’. Both prints and original glass plates will be on display.

I had such a great time with @dyanasonikhenderson and the @brokenrhythmsvictoria dance company during last weeks ‘Tintype Tuesday’. 

on Saturday I had the opportunity to take in their performance titled, CHIARO:SCURO. It was amazing to see all their hard work come together. The soundtrack and lighting took it to a whole different level.

After seeing the show, and reflecting on the plates we made together, I feel we captured the essence of the performance beautifully.

“Broken Rhythms takes inspiration from the Film Noir genre and Germanic Expressionism to play with the light and dark of the human condition and centers on the ‘femme fatale’ character through a modern lens.

Chiaro:Scuro is a re-imagining of Film Noir stylistic and stereotypical features such as shadows, fog, feelings of paranoia, betrayal and antiheroes who find themselves in dire situations beyond their control.
